Oxford Brookes 2nd year exhibition {Human Nature}
{shrouded glories} depicts both natural and manmade details, all from the city of Oxford; of the kind that are often overlooked by tourists and locals alike as they pass by, only seeing the grandeur of the landmarks, taking a photograph and moving along. I wanted to draw attention to the parts of our history that so many miss, symbolised in these architectural details. The paintings are complimented by text in Latin, inscriptions carved into the stone of Oxford, that point to a history of reverence and faith in the One who is worthy of all praise; a history forgotten by so many.
This project also draws a contrast between the natural and manmade, the fleeting and the eternal, between the flowers that pass away in a season, and the carved stone, an attempt to immortalise them.
The work sits among and alongside the works of other skilful artists, partially hidden, partially complimented by their talents.
